July 12 - July 14
Imagine an idyllic place where endless landscapes meet the salty sea spray, and the aromas of freshly caught seafood fill the air. This is exactly what the Lymington Seafood Festival is like, one of the brightest gastronomic celebrations on the South Coast of England. Held every summer in the picturesque town of Lymington, this festival will take place from July 12 to July 14 in 2024. It attracts thousands of gourmets and sea culture enthusiasts from all over the UK and abroad, offering breathtaking views of the Solent estuary from Bath Road Park.
Traditions and history of the festival
The Lymington Seafood Festival dates back to 1978 when local fishermen and traders decided to celebrate the rich fishing heritage of the region. Since then, this event has become a true symbol of the coastal town, embodying its close connection with the sea and the fishing industry. The festival not only honors local traditions but also serves as a platform for promoting sustainable fishing practices and raising awareness about the marine environment. Proceeds from the 2023 Lymington Seafood Festival were directed to the Oakhaven Hospice.
Festival program and highlights
For three days, Lymington transforms into a true seafood kingdom. About 80 stalls will offer a wide assortment of the freshest seafood and fish delicacies, prepared right on the spot. In addition to seafood, the festival will feature vegetarian and sweet dishes. The main highlight will be the "Bream on the Green" - a large lawn fully lined with tents and stalls from the south coast offering exquisite seafood delicacies.
There will be master classes on crab cracking, Asado cooking, and much more. Visitors will enjoy a diverse entertainment program, including live musical performances such as The Fleetwood Mac Experience on July 12. The festival also adheres to sustainability principles - 67.5% of all waste from last year's event was recycled.
